Department of Electronic Culture and Semiotics, Faculty of Humanities, Charles University; Department of General Linguistics, Faculty of Arts, Palacký University and Central European Pragmatist Forum invite you to the Peirce Prague Conference.

The international Peirce Prague Conference. 100 Years of Modern Semiotics: Limits and Perspectives on Peirce’s Theory of Signs is held in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the death of the founder of modern semiotics C. S. Peirce. The general topic of the conference is Peirce´s semiotic, its sources and the impact on philosophy and science of 20th Century.

For Your Freedom and Ours. International conference

People in Need will join the celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution with the international conference FOR YOUR FREEDOM AND OURS: SUPPORTING DISSIDENTS AND HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVISTS 25 YEARS AND BEYOND. The conference panels will be mostly composed of foreign delegates, activists whose fates aren’t left unnoticed by many democratic countries, including the Czech Republic. The venue itself is also symbolic, as the Charles University was the scene to many a significant event that marked the 1989 Velvet Revolution.

Conference "Ethics of play"

Faculty of Humanities, Charles University in Prague and Institute of Philosophy, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic invite you to the conference Ethics of play.

The conference's goal is to open a discussion on the mutual resonances and confrontations among different approaches to what could be called the Ethics of play. These approaches use play as an essential framework, ontological model, or the very form of reality in which ethics may be approached, structured, manifested or achieved.

Orientation Programme for FHS International Students

Within 10 – 13 February, the FHS International Office organizes the Orientation Programme to welcome new international students in Prague and at FHS CU. Along with a range of information sessions introducing the students into academic as well as cultural issues related to their study abroad stay, the students are assisted in arranging some of the practical issues. Within the summer semester, the FHS will host about 50 exchange students.

Majáles

The 1st of May celebrations will be launched by an amazing allegoric parade which will start at Kampa at 10:30. The parade will pass by significant places reminding us of the 50th anniversary of the legendary Majáles in 1965 whose king was the American poet Allen Ginsberg. The main program will start traditionally at 1:00 pm and it will be held in the historical picturesque courtyard of the Karolinum, but also in the Student´s club Celetná and this year for the first time also the Fruit Market (Ovocný trh) itself. Our beautiful historical Prague will therefor become, at least for a day, the center of student celebrations.

Rector´s Sports Day

We would like to invite you cordially to the Rector’s Sports Day. Hopefully, this event will not only attract students who do sports on regular basis but also those who have been staying away from them so far. They can also just try something new or nontraditional. Students will be offered 30 different sports. In addition to competitions in basketball, volleyball, softball, floorball, tennis and swimming, we would like to draw your attention to a newly opened competition in beach volleyball, sea kayaking and also sample lessons in martial arts Wing Chun and Krav Maga. Most of these events will take place in the Sport centre in Hostivař.
