Marie Sklodowska-Curie ITN Early Stage Researcher Posts in dementia care and technology

Applications are invited to work with Assoc. Professor Iva Holmerová as part of a European-funded Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (ITN), “INDUCT”. Successful applicants are also expected register for a PhD.


The INDUCT (Interdisciplinary Network for Dementia Utilising Current Technology) network comprises seven world-leading research organisations plus IDES, an enterprise for technology, research and care, as well as eight partner organisations including the World Health Organisation, Alzheimer Europe, Alzheimer’s Disease International, the World Occupational Therapists Federation, two other major universities and three other enterprises. INDUCT works with INTERDEM, a large international collaboration enabling training and development opportunities for all grades of researcher from PhD students to senior academics to develop capacity for future research in dementia care.


The overarching research goal of the INDUCT project is to improve of the usability of technology in dementia care by evaluating its effectiveness and implementation issues. A total of 15 Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) will be hosted across the network and will work in research, a network-wide training program, public engagement activities and collaboration with network partners through short-term secondments in European industrial/academic partner laboratories. Candidates interested in more than one position need to apply separately to each centre hosting ESRs and a final decision will be taken together on the day of the interview. Candidates will be required to meet the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Early Stage Researcher eligibility criteria: (http://ec.europa.eu/research/mariecurieactions/). In particular, at the time of appointment candidates must have had less than four years full-time equivalent research experience and must not have already obtained a PhD. Additionally, they must not have resided in the Czech Republic for more than 12 months in the three years immediately before the appointment. During registration candidates are asked to submit an updated copy of their Curriculum Vitae (max. two A4 pages), a motivation letter for the post (max. one A4 page), proof of English (IELTS: IELTS 6.0, minimum of 5.0 in each subset), and any additional documents requested by individual institutions hosting ESRs.


The post benefits from a highly competitive and attractive salary, plus mobility and family allowances as applicable. This Prague-based project is entitled “Care programmes and ICT support in different countries”.

Role Profile


Job Title: Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow

Salary: Salary from £28,813 to £34,999 per annum in accordance with the EC Marie Skłodowska-Curie financial guidelines for this scheme

Contract Status: Post will be available from September 2016 and is offered on a fixed-term 36 month contract  

Hours of Work: Full time – 40 per week

Aim:

The aim is to conduct research and data analysis in Dementia field and to participate in a European network and training programme.


These efforts will be pursued in the framework of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network “INDUCT” (Interdisciplinary Network for Dementia Utilising Current Technology). The overarching research goal of the INDUCT project is to improve of the usability of technology in dementia care and by evaluating its effectiveness and implementation issues.


Objective and expected results

Across Europe there is a great variety in the different software applications used to help manage care for persons with dementia in long-term care settings such as nursing homes in terms of: quality, content, user-friendliness, data safety, needs assessment and usability for management of care. As part of a research team, the successful candidate will be aiming at optimal integration of advance care planning for people with dementia in nursing homes.


She/he will collate and review the most widely used care applications and provide a detailed analysis of their value in practice by studying contrasting applications in nursing home settings in four EU countries.


The task will be to explore care software programmes in different dementia care settings, analyse enabling factors and hurdles in their use and find most important principles and indicators for development of care software. As a result best practice guidance on computerized care applications will be developed.


Training

It is expected that the role-holder will engage in network-wide training events, public engagement activities and international collaboration. Two 3 months secondments will take place: first with IDES a technology and service provision organisation in Spain to to better understand how care organisations work in practice and the second with the Vrije Universiteit Brussel to study care management systems.


Requirements

The successful applicant will be required to satisfy the eligibility criteria for Marie Curie Early Stage Researchers, i.e:


- Must not already hold a PhD;


- Must be within the first four years (full-time equivalent) of their research career;


- Must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the Czech Republic for more than 12 months in the three years immediately prior to their recruitment.

Master’s degree with a strong element of research methods, including quantitative methods.



Gerontology or health psychology background.



Skills/Training

Excellent IT skills & ability to research effectively on the Internet and navigate new sites.




Ability to work without direct supervision; to manage own workload and meet deadlines.

Ability to guide novices to engage with computers.





Experience






Extended contact with people with dementia in a professional or private capacity.

Familiarity with digital applications to tablet systems.
