First Graduates of Intercultural Management Course

From March 21 to July 15, 2016, five European universities involved in the CareMan project had been offering the optional course“Intercultural Management”. In total, 25 students enrolled into the course, 24 participated in the whole course and 17 successfully defended their thesis.

Besides the Faculty of Humanities, there were students from two Finnish universities - Hämmelinna University of Applied Sciences and Lahti University of Applied Sciences - from Scottish Edinburgh’s Napier University and from the University of Évora, Portugal.

The international course was led by Zuzana Havrdová. The course’s aim was to develop cultural sensitivity and improve the participants’ skills to effectively manage multidisciplinary teams in a culturally diverse environment of health and social care services.

The course included an intensive learning week in Prague (May 23–27, 2016). During their stay the students had an opportunity to participate in an international conference “Cross-cultural Management Issues in Contemporary European Social and Healthcare Services” and to visit the Zentiva organization or Sue Ryder Home.

The intensive program had also its social and cultural part. The students were free to visit the Old and New Town, Prague Castle or listen to a concert of jazz or classical music.

Both the international course and the intensive week were evaluated highly by the students and teachers alike.

In March 2016 three of the five participating universities, including FHS, filed in the Erasmus+ joint three-year project, which will follow up on the CareMan project.
