Sociologist Karel Černý winning Masaryk Distinguished Chair scholarship

Sociologist Karel Černý of FHS, the Department of Sociology, has received the Masaryk Distinguished Chair scholarship for his lecture and research stay at Reichman University in Israel.

During May and June 2022, Černý will give a lecture based on his field research of the causes of current migration from the Middle East to Europe, a presentation on the radicalization of a former Prague imam Samer Shehadeh, and finally, a lecture on the structural causes of political instability in the Middle East.

His research project deals with the reflection of the genocide of Iraqi Yazidis in Israeli society, a society that has been shaped by the historical experience of the Holocaust.

Dr. Karel Černý had already received a Fulbright scholarship for his stay at the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2012–2013. He is the author of e. g. Jezídové – komunita na útěku (Yazidis - community on the run) or Velká blízkovýchodní nestabilita (The Great Middle East Instability).
