Green to Green: Fast and Sustainable at FHS

From September 16, 2025, to October 31, 2025

The Faculty of Humanities at Charles University is joining the Charles University project: One University, A Thousand Sustainable Journeys, which promotes the values of European Sustainable Development Week and European Mobility Week. Green to Green: Fast and Sustainable at FHS is based on the idea that traveling to the faculty is part of our daily routine and that references to our transportation habits can contribute to strengthening environmentally responsible behavior. That is why we have prepared activities that support these principles. There are three events:

  • "How to get to FHS" will help us show how students, employees, and visitors get to FHS UK. We want to map our mobility strategies so that we can reflect on how we travel to school and work every day. We would like to use a colour-coded map of Prague to monitor what means of transport we use to get to FHS. Do we walk? Do we ride bicycles or scooters? Do we use public transport? Can't we do without a car? Or are there those among us who fly by helicopter or jet? Let's be inspired by our everyday mobility and travel sustainably!

From September 16, 2025, to October 31, 2025, a map of Prague will be placed on the outer wall of the café's relaxation area, along with colorful stickers in four colors, divided according to the carbon footprint of the means of transport. Students and employees of the Faculty of Humanities will be able to mark the starting point of their journey to school or work on the map in a color corresponding to the carbon footprint they leave behind.

  • "Step on the pedals at FHS" is a reel intended to inspire people to plan and experience a green journey by bike, realizing that the journey to FHS can be a green start not only to a school or work day. A video of the bike ride to the faculty will be posted on social media.

  • As part of the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the founding of FHS on October 7, 2025, the Deskalibur board game club will hold an event called "Let's Go Green," where we can practice green mobility through various board games that refer to urban and international transport. As Roger Caillois says, the game takes place outside of everyday reality, which means, among other things, that its consequences do not necessarily affect social reality. Nevertheless, we believe that the themes of games such as Ticket to Ride Europe or Metro can be another tool to draw attention to green forms of mobility as good options for travel in the city, region, and Europe.
