FHS graduate Josef Řičář has been awarded the Jacques Derrida Prize


We are proud to announce that Josef Řičář, Ph.D., a graduate of the doctoral programme in General Anthropology, has been awarded the Jacques Derrida Prize for the Humanities and Social Sciences, organised by the Embassy of France and sponsored by the Young Talents Foundation. His dissertation Representations of Animals in the Czech Travel Literature of Africa, 1870–1939, defended in 2025 under the supervision of doc. PhDr. Lucie Storchová, Ph.D., DSc., earned him first place, including a research fellowship in France.


Dr. Řičář currently holds a postdoctoral position within the GAČR project Labour, Anger, Modernity: Urban Protests and the "Under-Bourgeois" Classes in the Austrian Monarchy, 1789–1847, led by prof. Pavel Himl at FHS UK.
