Liberation Day is a national holiday in the Czech Republic, celebrated on May 8. It is an annual holiday to celebrate the Commemoration of the end of World War II. This is the same date as the celebration known as Victory in Europe Day that is celebrated across much of Europe. There are no classes on this day.

On May 10-13, 2018 the 24th international book fair and literary festival “Book World Prague 2018” is held at the Prague Exhibition Grounds in Holešovice. FHS`s book production will be presented and you will find it in the right part of the Industrial Palace at the P 202 stand.

As in previous years, the end of this year’s summer semester sees the annual Rector’s Sports Day (RSD), carried out under the auspices of University Rector Professor MUDr. Tomáš Zima, DrSc., MBA, an occasion intended to bring together students of the University, both on and off the sports field.

St. Wenceslas Day

Wenceslas, the patron saint of the Czech state, was the duke of Bohemia from 921 until his assassination in 935. He was murdered on September 28 by his younger brother Boleslaus the Cruel. Immediately after his death Wenceslas was considered a martyr and a saint.

All classes for this day have been cancelled.


1 October 2018 – 11 January 2019

Tuition in Winter Term

The tuition in the Winter Term 2018/19 starts on October 1st, 2018 and ends on January 11th, 2019.

The last week of tuition in the semester (7th to 11th January 2019) is intended for written exams, usually with scheduled rooms and times.

Between 22/12/2018 and 2/1/2019 will be winter holidays.

Matriculation

Matriculation ceremonies to welcome new students will be held in the University’s Karolinum building on Thursday 4th October 2018. The timetable of ceremonies is published in SIS (section Graduation).

All FHS classes have been cancelled for this day.

Independent Czechoslovak State Day

This national holiday is to commemorate the creation of Czechoslovakia in 1918.

This year the anniversary of the origin of the Czechoslovak Republic is also the anniversary of Charles University. Although the history of Charles University dates back to 1348, in November 1918 it got its current name.
