Description of the Field of Study

Longevity Studies enable better understanding of interfaces and challenges of prolongation of human life (longevity). It fosters better understanding and finding of appropriate answers and solutions of theoretical, applied and ethical context of longevity. It reflects not only current demographic changes of population (as the gerontology) but it also reflect the fact that nowadays also persons with severe disability, chronic illnesses and impairment live longer than ever before and also some other specific groups of our population have needs related to the longevity. Longevity Studies offer integrated study on the boarder of humanities, social, biomedical and other mainly applied sciences. The study responses to needs of specialist analyses and solutions of problems related to longevity and demographic change of the society, in different fields of human life and activity. The doctoral postgraduate Longevity studies qualifies highly skilled and knowledgeable specialists in research, expertise and transfer of knowledge into the practice. On the scientific level they are able to tackle problems related to longevity of human life. They are aware and able to use relevant scientific methods, to coordinate interdisciplinary teams and to publish both scientific publications and materials for decision making on all adequate levels and problems related to longevity.

Admission Exam

The examination consists of

  1. Discussion about the research project (of the dissertation). (max. 12 points)

  2. Examination on English language proficiency (max. 4 points) Entrance examination will check the ability to communicate in English (in the extent necessary for literature study, communication in international teams, preparation of materials and teleconferences). Therefore the examination will be partly in English.

  3. It will check of basic assumptions for the Longevity studies (motivation, knowledge and activities in research and practice and their theoretical or applied results). Also the knowledge of relevant research methods will be part of the entrance examination. (max. 4 point).

The research project has to be prepared by the applicant (cca. 4-6 pages) and submitted with the application. I tis advised to consult the research project with the potential supervisor. During the examination the research project will be discussed and its quality (topic, method, formal issues etc.) will be evaluated by the commission.

From the entrance exams can get max. 20 points.

Admission Requirements

Conditions for admission:

  1. Submission of the filled-out application form for doctorate studies, along with the following appendices. Deadline: 30. 4. 2018:

    • Theme of thesis, i.e. annotation of research project;

    • Document confirming graduation from a university study programme at the master’s level;

    • Short structured biography;

    • Other documents worth noting (e.g. list of publications by applicant, documents confirming a successful state or international exam in a utilised language, documents confirming academic work, either in the Czech Republic or abroad, and so on);

    • Documents certifying a completed higher-education studies at the masters level (applicants who complete their masters studies after the application deadline have to document the completion of their studies by 30. 9. 2018 at the latest). In case of graduation abroad, applicants have to submitt nostrification of master diploma;

    • Other relevant documents

  2. Graduation from a master’s degree program.

  3. Defence of the project of applicant's thesis (submitted as a part of the study application).

  4. To gain the minimal sum of points specified by the dean. An applicant who will be awarded less than 10 points will not be admitted.

Profile of a Graduate

The graduate of the PhD study have the skills and knowledge of scientific methods at the level required for doctoral studies of humanities reflecting the focus on longevity. He/she is able to propose and solve complex scientific projects, expertise and solution proposals, to act as a specialist in the academic and pedagogic field. In the practice, the graduate is able to coordinate interprofessional teams in the field of academy, public administration and also in the private sector.


Tuition fee for the program is 2000 € (54 000 CZK)/year.
