In the last days of August, the teachers of the Historical Sociology study program and the colleagues from the Department of Sociology of FHS CU received a sad news about a sudden death of their long-time colleague, collaborator and also a close friend, Alemayeha Kumsa, Ph.D. (died 8/19/2023).
Dr. Kumsa came from Oromia, one of the federal states of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. In the late 1980s, he began his studies in Prague at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, which he completed there in 1998 by obtaining the Ph.D. During his professional career, he was engaged in teaching activities, first mainly at the faculties of Charles University, and later, for example, also at Škoda Auto University in Mladá Boleslav. His colleagues remember him as a kind collaborator and expert who, in addition to questions of general sociological theory, focused primarily on the issues of social processes and conflicts taking place on the African continent. In this direction, his professional reputation went far beyond the Czech Republic.
