Professor Martin C. Putna Awarded the Rudolf Medek Prize

Professor Martin C. Putna of FHS received the Rudolf Medek Prize. The Prize is awarded by the National Library of the Czech Republic - the Slavonic Library since 2008.


Its goal is to reward scholars, writers, publishers, filmmakers, journalists and other specialists in Czech-Russian (Czechoslovak-Soviet) relations in the 20th century, in historical tendencies and key moments of East and Central Europe and in promoting and strengthening of democracy.


The main topics for nomination include for example:

  • Czechoslovak resistance abroad during the WWI and Czechoslovak legions in Russia

  • Russian anti-Bolshevik inter-war emigration

  • Resistance against the Nazis

  • The Prague Spring phenomenon
