To wear a uniform: Conference on Military Reenactment

When is it okay to put on a Wehrmacht or Red Army uniform? Is it possible to authentically reach into the past and how? These and other questions were raised by speakers at the conference Military Reenactment, Military Heritage and Historical Conflicts and Traumas in Czech Lands. The two-day event featured guest speakers from Czechia, Slovakia, Poland and Germany, such as Prof. Juliane Tomann from the University of Regensburg and Doc. Kamila Baraniecka-Olszewska from the Polish Academy of Sciences.

This was the first ever professional meeting in the Czech environment focused on historical reenactment.

The conference is one of the results of the GAČR project 22-07058S, Contemporary Military Reenactment in the Czech Lands: Its History and Culture in an Interdisciplinary Perspective, carried out at the Faculty of Humanities, Charles University. Dr. Petr Wohlmuth, is the principal investigator of the project, and he is also supported for example by Dr. Jiří Hlaváček from the study programme Oral History - Contemporary History and FHS PhD students Přemysl Vacek and Josef Řičář.
