International Summer Schools

Call for applications: 2017 ethnomusicology summer schools

Faculty of Humanities, at Charles University, Prague, is announcing three ethnomusicology summer schools for local and international students:

  • Music of underprivileged groups: Roma and Jews (May 29 to June 2, 2017; prof. Zuzana Jurková, prof. Sarah Ross, and prof. Miranda Crowdus; see details


  • Music in Socialism and Postsocialism (June 19–27, 2017; prof. Verbuč, with guests; see details here)

  • Musics in Israel (September 11–15, 2017; prof. Essica Marks; see details here)

General information for all three summer schools. The courses will be held in English. All costs (transport, accommodation, meals) are covered by students themselves. The organizer will arrange accommodation at Charles University dorms upon request. Participation fee for international students is 30 euros (free for Charles University and Erasmus students). Students will have a possibility to obtain 3-4 ECTS credits for their participation (depending on the course). Students can apply for one, two, or all three ethnomusicology summer courses.

Application. Students who wish to participate in a particular summer school must submit the following forms by March 15, 2017:

a) application form (find on this page)

b) CV (curriculum vitae)

c) proof of current university enrolment

(all in English)

Signed application form, and other documents, should be submitted to the following email addresses: (for “Music of underprivileged groups: Roma and Jews,” and for “Music in Israel” summer schools), and (for “Music in socialism and postsocialism” summer school). Applicants will be notified about their acceptance within two weeks after the deadline.

Charles University students, and Erasmus students do not have to send an application—only register on SIS by March 5, 2017.
