At the end of August, the Faculty of Humanities hosted an international conference on Heritage and Depopulation in Europe. Our faculty hosted more than 100 participants from 23 countries from Armenia to the United Kingdom, who met over three days for presentations and discussions on topics such as the impact of depopulation on peripheral areas in Europe, cultural heritage and urban architecture, or the effects of depopulation on cultural transmission. Students of the doctoral study of anthropology at the Faculty of Humanities contributed significantly to the organization of the conference, but also actively participated and presented their research. The conference was held as part of the research project Heritage in Depopulating European Areas (HerInDep), realized by a consortium of three research institutions led by researchers from Charles University. Researchers from the Kaunas University of Technology (Lithuania) and the University of the Highlands and Islands (United Kingdom) were also significantly represented at this scientific meeting, with not only their senior researchers, but also PhD students and representatives of local organizations participating in the event. The conference also included a round table with associated partners in the project, which brought representatives of non-profit organizations, local associations, and cultural and memory institutions from the Czech Republic, Lithuania and the Shetland Islands, who shared experiences and examples of "good practice" from their regions.
