Our faculty was founded exactly 25 years ago, on August 1, 2000. FHS UK was established as a successor organization of the Institute for Liberal Education (Institut základů vzdělanosti), from which it took over the liberal model of university education. The faculty was initiated by two strong personalities, Prof. Jan Sokol and doc. Zdeněk Pinc, who are inextricably connected to the birth of the faculty. In the following decades, the Faculty of Humanities successfully developed not only its unique interdisciplinary bachelor's studies but also accredited a number of original master's and doctoral study programs.

In both pedagogy and research, the faculty prides itself on multidisciplinarity, intersections and dialogue between diverse fields in the humanities and social sciences. This synergy is both the starting point and the engine that generates not only graduates with broad perspectives and competencies but also contributes to innovation in science and research. In this respect, the faculty provides an apt home for the development of new, internationally recognized scientific disciplines, subdisciplines and approaches such as applied ethics, ethnomusicology, environmental anthropology, gender studies, oral history, longevity studies, civil society studies, and others. The faculty is an inspiring environment that emphasizes activity, individuality, flexibility and responsibility for one’s choice. Its members form a diverse, high-quality and confident community, where respect is a pillar of cooperation and mutual enrichment.

A celebration with a concert and subsequent reception, where we will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the founding of FHS, will take place on Monday, September 29, from 4 p.m. in the large auditorium of Carolinum and the adjacent representative rooms.
