New Research Project „Support of Endangered Plurality: Languages and Culture of the Middle Ages“ Launched

July 2022, with the support of funds from Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland, saw the launch of a new project called „Support of Endangered Plurality: Languages and Culture of the Middle Ages“. The project is a joint work of the Faculty of Humanities and the University of Iceland and will allow for new curricula for medieval language and culture classes within the FHS, taught in English, thus promoting the knowledge of the language and culture of the Middle Ages. Icelandic experts managing the successful Master’s program on Old Norse literature taught in English will be joining the work on the project. Its aim is also to present medieval history to both Czech and foreign scholars and to create an international Master’s program called Medieval Languages and Literature.



The main activities of the project cover the creation of new semester courses i.a. on the following topics: Medieval Literature in Bohemia; Women in Medieval English Literature; Old and Middle English Literature; The Concept of Body in Old Norse Literature; History of Medicine in the Middle Ages; Biblical Stories in the Middle Ages; Medieval Cultural Pluralism.


The international team of the project is comprised of Marie Novotná, the main researcher (FHS CU), Lucie Doležalová (FHS CU), Conan Doyle (FHS CU), Adéla Ebersonová (FHS CU), Klára Petříková (FHS CU), Torfi Tulinius (HÍ), and Haraldur Bernhardsson (HÍ).
