Student Solidarity Movement awarded the Miloslav Petrusek Prize

On April 7, 2016 Charles University marked its 668th anniversary. On that occasion, at ceremonial assembly in the historic Carolinum the Rector, Professor Tomáš Zima, bestowed the Miloslav Petrusek Prize for the presentation of the University and the Bedřich Hrozný Prize for creative accomplishment.

The Miloslav Petrusek Prize was awarded to the Student Solidarity Movement for educating public in the current refugee and migration issues through public lectures, discussions and other events. Its activities in the past year have significantly contributed to spreading the good name of Charles University.

”We consider crucial the mission of the university to express its opinion on social issues and the strive to honour the tradition of humanism and democracy. As students, we feel responsible for the voice of the academic community as it resounds in public space,” said the co-founder of the Movement Jakub Múčka.

Student Solidarity Movement is a social platform created in 2015, which aims to help refugees and to raise public awareness about this topic. It is an association of individuals and societies (i.e. departments or faculties) also including students from the Faculty of Humanities.
