The Faculty of Humanities and the Society for Philosophical Anthropology cordially invites you to a lecture "Hegel’s Account of Subjectivity and Alienation in the World Religions" presented by Jon Stewart.
The lecture explores Hegel’s rich account of subjectivity as it is reflected in what he calls “the determinate religions” in his Lectures on the Philosophy of Religion. Hegel claims that in the different conceptions of the divine in the various religions of the world we have a mirror of how human beings have conceived of themselves as individuals at different stages of history. He argues that by tracing these different ideas of the gods, we can discern an undeniable trajectory in the concepts of what we today refer to with terms such as “subjectivity,” “inwardness,” and “individuality.”
