The Department of Sociology, Faculty of Humanities cordially invites you to a lecture by Maji Babić: "Studying state-socialist urban heritage: A (foreigner’s) inquiry into Prague’s paneláky". The lecture takes place at the FHS (room No. 2.32) on Tuesday, May 24 at 5.00 PM.
The lecture is a culmination of an 18-month postdoctoral research project. As such, it includes an overview of the author’s broader academic project and its future expansion. The lecture will address an earlier work on Yugoslav architectural space and its links with the study of state-socialist era housing and Prague’s paneláky in the contemporary moment. It will outline the anticipated inquiry into the notion of a post-socialist city and its theorization in the context of mass housing.
Maja Babić is an architectural and urban historian. In her work, she studies the intersection of architecture, ideology, and urban identity in former state-socialist spaces and their contemporary transformative processes. Her work focuses on the architectural production in the region of former Yugoslavia and the countries of the former Eastern Bloc.
