International Semiotic Summer School in Prague: When Images Speak Louder Than Words

PRELIMINARY PROGRAM

The International Semiotics Summer School will take place at the Faculty of Humanities of CU from 23-28 July 2023. The topic for this year is the visual metaphor. The whole event is open to all interested academics, and is primarily intended for PhD students and MA students with a strong academic interest in semiotics.

The summer school is co-organized by  Palacký University in Olomouc, International Semiotics Institute, RWTH Aachen University, University of Bologna, St. Kliment Ohridski at the University of Sofia, and The Erasmus School of Philosophy in Rotterdam.

During the summer school, you will have the opportunity to meet both students and, above all, leading experts from a number of prestigious institutions from around the world.

Other guests will be joining us from institutions that shaped semiotics as a discipline in the twentieth century and largely determine its direction today. These include the alma mater of the founder of cultural semiotics, Jurij Lotman, the University of Tartu; one of the main research centers of contemporary cognitive semiotics, Lund University; and last but not least, the Institute for Studies of Pragmatism, a top-notch institute at Texas Tech University that nurtures the interdisciplinary legacy of Peirce's semiotics.

The program of the event is still subject to minor adjustments at the moment, and the final version will be published on the conference website in the coming days.

The academic part of the conference is freely open to the public. Non-registered participants can attend the social programme if they pay a one-off fee of 50 euros.
