The Faculty of Humanities at Charles University values research excellence, interdisciplinary expertise, team diversity and a stimulating working environment.
It therefore welcomes scholars who wish to come to Prague to collaborate with one or more members of its academic community.
The stays of Visiting Scholars take place during semester time (September to June) and can last from 3 to 10 months. The status of a Visiting Scholar can be awarded for up to one academic year, unless external funding (such as a MSCA fellowship) exceeds this period.
Visiting Scholarship is an honorary status and does not include a stipend. However, the Faculty of Humanities welcomes expressions of interest from the MSCA, Fulbright and governmental bilateral scholarships applicants. All scholars who have external academic funding in place enjoy the same privileges as Visiting Scholars and further rights specific to their respective funding programmes/schemes.
The Faculty of Humanities can award the status of a Visiting Scholar to applicants who hold a PhD, engage in an academic career, and are employed by a research or higher education institution. The expertise of qualified candidates should intersect with or complement research specialisms of Faculty members and show promise of future joint research projects, joint publication(s), joint degree programmes or other forms of collaboration.
We particularly invite applications from scholars at universities that already have collaborative and partnership ties with our Faculty.
Researchers who wish to come to the Faculty of Humanities as Visiting Scholars are asked to send
their CV with a list of publications (max. 4 pages),
a cover letter and
an invitation/reference letter by the Faculty of Humanities academic outlining potential collaboration
The documents are to be sent to the following address: visiting.scholars@fhs.cuni.cz
It is essential that scholars apply (with all the above-mentioned documents) at least five months prior to their potential start date.
Applications will require the approval by the Faculty of Humanities official representatives and will be judged strictly on the basis of academic merit and the availability of collaborating colleagues.
Due to the courtesy nature of the award, the process of application evaluation may be terminated.
Visiting Scholars are not employees of the Faculty of Humanities (unless the employee status is explicitly secured by their external funding arrangement/scheme). They are considered guests. The granting of Visiting Scholar status is a courtesy that does not oblige the Faculty of Humanities to make any financial transfers or provide any compensation in support of the incoming guest.
The Faculty of Humanities does not charge any administrative fees (such as bench fees) in order not to enhance inequalities in academia.
Due to the courtesy nature of the award, the process of application evaluation may be terminated, and Visiting Scholar status may be revoked at any time at the sole discretion of the Faculty of Humanities.
