Students with special needs

Special needs

Charles University provides applicants and students with special needs with modifications to the admission procedure, study conditions, and other support services to ensure their successful completion of the admissions or studies.

Special needs are individual characteristics that put a person at a disadvantage in the study/admission procedure, resulting in particular from visual, hearing, physical or combined disabilities, specific learning disabilities, chronic illness or impairment, psychological disorders or impaired communication skills.

The first step in the provision of study services is to determine the student’s needs through a tool called functional diagnostics. This step allows for understanding the student's situation and the appropriate support measures to be set accordingly. Based on the functional diagnostics, the student receives a proposal of supporting measures, which he/she discusses with the faculty contact person and shows to the teachers of the courses in which the proposed measures could be used. These measures may include time compensations for examinations, study assistance, individual study plan and other forms of support.
