The Faculty of Humanities and the Society for Philosophical Anthropology cordially invite you to a lecture "Nietzsche as the Philosopher of ‚Affirmation of Life‘" presented by Aleš Novák.
Lecture abstract:
Although Nietzsche was advocating the thought of nihilism, saying that he was a nihilist cannot be further from the truth. Nihilism means that the value of the values is both false and devaluating. Nihilism means that the human beings have taken the value of life from life and transmitted it away from life. Realising this “moral falsification” of life is a philosophical task of the utmost importance, together with giving the true value back to life and learning to affirm it in a proper way. Nietzsche has to be regarded therefore as one of the greatest philosophers of the affirmation of life. It is for this very reason that he is so critical of the state of life not only of his present time but also of the whole Western, i.e. Christian culture. First of all we need to understand Nietzsche’s conception of nihilism to be able to follow him on his track of affirmation of life culminating in his famous (if not infamous) thoughts of the eternal recurrence of the same, amor fati, and the super-human (Übermensch). In affirming the life, one has to adopt the stance of creativity. That is why the art (music, dancing, poetry etc.) demonstrates this genuine affirmation of life the most adequately.
