We cordially invite you to a joint guest lecture by Alin Olteanu (Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University; University of Bucharest; Babeș-Bolyai University) and Peter Mantello (Ritsumeikan University), which will introduce semiotic approaches to contemporary language and generative technologies. The lecture will explore how artificial intelligence and large language models are transforming our understanding of language, mind, and technology, while also addressing the question of digital afterlife, in which meaning and communication may persist beyond biological death through diverse digital representations. Drawing on perspectives from semiotics, philosophy of technology, and biosemiotics, the speakers will raise specific questions about what presence, communication, and identity mean in a context where they are co-constituted not only by living human beings but also by technologically processed data.
The lecture will take place on Thursday, March 5th at 4:00 PM at Faculty of Humanities, room 2.32.
