Lecture annotation:
This lecture explores how perception, memory, and emotion shape our understanding of reality through language and attention. It begins with change blindness and selective attention, highlighting how subtle shifts in textual framing often go unnoticed due to cognitive filtering and the limits of perceptual awareness. The session then examines memory as a reconstructive process, emphasizing how linguistic framing and the misinformation effect dynamically influence recall and the stability of meaning. Drawing on the emotional model of Robert Plutchik, the lecture also investigates how language encodes and modulates emotional experience, shaping intensity and valence in communication. Finally, a case study of the Balenciaga scandal illustrates how narrative reframing and discourse strategies in digital media can transform public perception and emotionally reposition audiences.
