Our colleague Mgr. Petra Ezzeddine, Ph.D., a member of the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, has been granted the ACES (Amsterdam Centre for European Studies) fellowship for guest scientists and is currently, from 16 January to 16 February, 2023, working at the Department of Anthropology of the University of Amsterdam. She has already given a lecture called Care Bonds in Pandemic Times and is organizing a workshop for postgraduate students on the topic of Care Alternatives. Working with the anthropology team of ERC ReloCare (being the expert consultant on Czechia and Slovakia), she is developing a new CareOrg project financed by the Volskwagenstiftung grant, which brings together the Faculty of Humanities and the University of Amsterdam as co-researchers.
The CareOrg project’s aim is to study the specific infrastructure of the migration of care in the transnational context of the receiving and sending countries within the Central and Eastern Europe. The team is comprised as an interdisciplinary consortium of midcareer and junior scholars from Germany, Czechia, Hungary, Holland, Romania, and the Ukraine. The team of the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology will be focusing on the ethnographic research of political mobilization, the ways of the professionalization of caregivers and on describing the practice of informal care in the shared Czech-Slovak infrastructure of the migration of care; under
the leadership of Dr. Petra Ezzeddine.
The Charles University, Goethe University in Frankfurt, University of Amsterdam, Center for Social and Labor Research Kiev, Universitatea Babes-Bolyai Cluj and Centre for Social Sciences all work together on the project.
