His research primarily focuses on the evolution of values, social consensus, and the legitimacy of social orders during key turning points especially in 20th-century Czech history. He has extensively studied denunciation, collective violence, and conflict-related sexual violence in the Czech Lands during and after World War II. His current research project examines power dynamics in late socialist urban environments, emphasizing the concept of the "underworld" inhabited by marginalized groups. The project explores state tolerance of certain behaviors and participation in gray areas, uncovering tensions between official ideology and social realities in late socialist societies.
