Pavel Himl deals with the history of the countries of the Habsburg Monarchy roughly between the years 1700 and 1850 in a historical-anthropological perspective. It focuses, among other things, on the history of marginal groups and on the transformation of social norms, connected with contemporary ideas of "public order" or "public morality", at the border between the early modern and modern times. His latest monograph is the book Observe, describe, create. The Enlightenment Police and the Modern State 1770-1820 (Prague 2019). He worked as a visiting teacher in Vienna, Gießen and Paris.
