Mobilities in Australia, Brazil, Israel, Japan, Canada, South Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Serbia and USA

study abroad in the academic year 2025/26

International Relations Office of the CU Rectorate announces a call for applications for study abroad mobilities in either winter or summer semester of the 2025/2026 academic year within the framework of inter-university agreements. The list of available universities including the number of offered spots is shown below.


Interested candidates can submit their application via the CU online application from October 1 to October 31, 2024.


Students have the possibility to select one university as an alternative to the university of their first choice. In total students can apply for two partner universities.

Selection procedure

  • Selection procedure at Charles University for the Inter-University mobilities has two rounds - faculty and university-wide.

  • Each faculty pre-selects and nominates their candidates for the university-wide selection procedure conducted by the International Relations Office at Charles University Rectorate.

  • The succesfull applicants are then nominated to the given partner universities, which make the final decision.

Required documents

All submitted documents must be in English.

NOTICE: in the case of Université de Montréal, documents must be in French (the recommendation letter can be written in Czech or English as well)

  • CV (including updated contact details: e-mail, phone number)

  • Letter of purpose

  • Study plan

    • Study plan must be filled out in the intended form. Instructions on how to design a Study Plan are available here.

    • Selection of courses at partner universities and their recognition at FHS has to be consulted with your study program guarantor.

  • Recommendation letter by a CU Faculty of Humanities member

  • Transcript of Records including complete study average

  • Certificate/confirmation of English language proficiency

  • Consent to personal data processing (document to download)

  • Invitation letter by a receiving faculty member (applies to PhD applicants for a research stay only).

    • Please note that in some cases students apply for a research stay on their own, outside of the selection process. Information can be found on the website or by asking the relevant CU Rectorate coordinator.

  • The International Office will reach out to the guarantor of the relevant study program concerning their approval of the student's planned study abroad mobility.

Financial support

  • Tuition fees waiver

  • Other fees may be required (various semester fees, deposits etc.),

    NOTICE: all costs stemming from an exchange stay via the inter-university framework are expected to be covered by the student.

  • Insurance to cover medical costs, required especially by non-European countries/universities

  • Visa fee

  • The costliest aspects of staying abroad are generally travel and the cost of living (accommodation, everyday expenses etc.).All accepted students may apply for a financial contribution from the CU Mobility Fund.

  • The websites of our partner universities usually offer current information about living costs in the given country.

Semestral study stays

study abroad in the academic year 2024/25

The FHS CU International Office has announced a call for applications for a scholarship study stay at our partner universities in Germany in the 2024/2025 academic year.


Interested candidates can submit their application via the CU online application until September 30, 2024.


Students have the possibility to select one university as an alternative to the university of their first choice.

Required documents for BA and MA students

  • CV in German or English

  • Cover letter in German or English

  • Study plan

    • Study plan must be filled out in the intended form. Instructions on how to design a Study Plan are available here.

    • Selection of courses at partner universities and their recognition at FHS has to be consulted with your study program guarantor.

  • Recommendation letter by a CU Faculty of Humanities teacher in German or English (Universität Hamburg requires 2 recommendation letters)

  • Transcript of Records, complete study average

  • Certificate/confirmation of German language proficiency at min. B2 level

  • Written confirmation from an HHU lecturer that they are willing to provide the usual level of student supervision (just for HHU Düsseldorf)

Required documents for PhD students

  • CV (including updated contact details: e-mail, phone number) - in German or English

  • Covering letter (German or English language)

  • Academic Visitor Application

    • Upload the form to the online application with your signature and the signature of your supervisor (second signature). The signature of the Vice Dean for International Relations (third signature) will be provided by the FHS International Department in case of the nominated students.

  • Dissertation summary in German or English

  • Recommendation letter by a CU Faculty of Humanities member - in German or English (Universität Hamburg requires 2 recommendation letters)

  • Confirmation of admission to a PhD program

  • Confirmed transcript of study results, average of study results from previous studies

  • Certificate/confirmation of German language proficiency - B2

  • Invitation letter by a receiving faculty member

  • 2 semester scholarships for bachelor or master students - 934 EUR per month (summer semester 2024/2025)

  • 2 semester scholarships for doctoral students - 1200 EUR per month (possible to go for several weeks - max. 3 months in the period January - December 2025)

Heinrich Heine Universität Düsseldorf

  • 1 semester scholarship for bachelor and master students - 934 EUR per month (not for doctoral students) – (summer semester 2024/2025)

- additional application document: written confirmation from an HHU lecturer that they are willing to provide the usual level of student supervision

Universität Hamburg

  • 2 semester scholarships for bachelor, master or doctoral students – 1000 EUR per month (summer semester 2024/2025)

Universität Leipzig

  • 1 semester scholarship for bachelor, master or doctoral students – 500 EUR per month (summer semester 2024/2025)

Universität Heidelberg

  • 1 semester scholarship for bachelor, master or doctoral students - 700 EUR per month (summer semester 2024/2025 - 5 months including the intensive German course before the beginning of the semester)

Please note: There might be special visa requirements depending on the visiting country. You might pay extra for visa fees, health insurance, etc., so make sure that you have sufficient funds to cover all of your expenses (abroad as well as upon your return). There are no additional grants at the Faculty of Humanities and you won't be excused from paying the tuition fees at the Faculty. Most of the countries are more expensive than the Czech Republic, therefore we advise you to have sufficient savings.
