To complete the credit requirements, it is necessary to pay close attention to credit amounts during course registration and successfully complete enough courses (with a sufficient number of credits) until the end of the relevant exam period. We strongly recommend that you register for more courses than the minimum amount so that you have some backup credits in case you fail to complete some of the compulsory exams. We do not recommend aiming for the minimum number of credits during course registration - if you fail to gain enough credits during the academic year, your study shall be terminated.
According to the Faculty's Rules of Study, students must fulfil the assessment of a compulsory course no later than the end of the examination period of the summer semester of the immediately subsequent unit (year) of study. This means that if you have a compulsory exam registered in the 1st year of study, you have until the end of your 2nd year to complete the exam. All compulsory exams are registered for you by your study programme department based on the official study plan of the programme.
If you fail the exam on your first try, you then have a maximum of two "resit" dates.
The final state exams and thesis defence are registered for all students at the beginning of their studies. You must complete them before your maximum period of study expires.
If you wish to continue your studies at our Faculty, you must officially register for the next unit (year) of study each academic year.
After logging into the SIS and clicking on "Summary of Exam Results" and then "Validations", choose "Request for validation" and pick the relevant year of study. After the validation, you can click on "Enrolment in the next part of the study". Failure to perform this validation is considered as withdrawal from your studies and termination of study proceedings shall be initiated by the Faculty.
You do not need to complete this validation if you are interrupting your studies or if you are planning on graduating during the academic year.
The final "deadline" of every study is the maximum period of study. The maximum period of study for BA programmes is 6 years (3 + 3 years), 5 years (2 + 3 years) for MA programmes, and 8 years (4 + 4 or 3 + 5 years, see CSECU) for PhD programmes.
In all cases, period of study is counted from the first day of the academic year in which the student is enrolled.
In exceptional cases, the maximum period of study may be extended. This applies to serious circumstances, such as maternity/paternity leave or serious health issues. In the academic year 2019/2020, every student's maximum period of study was extended due to the impact of coronavirus measures on teaching and education.
