Postdoctoral Fellowship in Literary Studies

The Department of Languages and Literatures, Faculty of Humanities, Charles University, Prague, invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship starting in October 2026.

The Department of Languages and Literatures focuses on research and teaching in literary studies, linguistics, philology, and cultural history, with a strong interdisciplinary profile.

Position Overview

The fellowship is intended for early-career researchers in literary studies, philology or medieval studies who wish to develop their research and teaching within a dynamic interdisciplinary environment. The applicant’s research focus should be relevant to the Department’s research profile.

The successful fellow is expected to be present at the Faculty and take an active part in the academic life of the Department, including teaching, participation in seminars, conferences, and workshops, and collaborative research activities.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

• Hold a Ph.D. in literary studies, philology, or a closely related field.

• Have obtained their Ph.D. no more than 8 years prior to the application deadline.

• Have received their Ph.D. from an institution outside the Czech Republic.

• Demonstrate a strong research profile appropriate to their career stage.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

• Teach one course per semester.

• Actively contribute to the academic life of the Department.

• Submit at least one project application and one article to a peer-reviewed journal during the fellowship.

Salary and Conditions

• Duration: 12 months.

• Salary: 42,000 CZK per month, approximately 1,700 EUR gross.

• This position does not include a dedicated research budget.

Application Requirements

Applicants should submit:

• Academic CV, including a list of publications.

• Proof of Ph.D. degree, such as a copy of the diploma or official confirmation of degree completion, including the date and awarding institution.

• Cover letter, maximum 2 pages.

• Research proposal, maximum 3 pages, outlining the candidate’s planned research and its relevance to the Department’s research focus.

• Writing sample, such as a published academic article or a dissertation chapter.
