Liberal Arts and Humanities

Liberal Arts and Humanities is a university study program in the humanities that is centred on philosophy, history and cultural and social anthropology, but also offers courses in many different academic fields related to the study of humanities. In addition to the wide range of taught disciplines, students can gradually focus on a field(s) of their choice. The program is an ideal preparation for further post-Bachelor studies in humanities and social sciences.

The program's signature feature is a widely open study curriculum with only a few compulsory courses that enables you to pursue your individual interests and develop new abilities via interesting elective courses. Every student completes mandatory courses in the humanities and social sciences by successfully passing comprehensive exams relevant to each field. Additionally, students choose from an offer of elective courses and create their own unique curriculums that complement their skills and interests. By choosing the elective and optional courses during their studies, students can gradually specialize in specific academic fields and focus on their preferred topics.

The graduate of Liberal Arts and Humanities has a comprehensive understanding of the humanities and social sciences and understands the differences between various fields, discourses, and specifics of their methodology. Thanks to this, they are able to consider and compare different approaches and perspectives. In particular, they are able to interpret the results of socio-scientific research and assess its relevance, thematize and analyze various social phenomena in their contexts, and analyze the development of complex social and cultural phenomena from a long-term perspective. Thanks to the interactive way of teaching in seminar groups, the student has excellent communication skills in English and is able to cooperate in a multicultural international environment.

Thanks to the interdisciplinary focus of the studies, the graduate has a selective knowledge of the main concepts, approaches and important primary texts of European philosophy. The graduate also has professional knowledge of European history, especially history of Central Europe. Furthermore, they have selective knowledge of theories and methods of social sciences, especially social and cultural anthropology; to a lesser extent sociology, psychology, and economics. The broad focus of studies and comprehensive final examinations round up the graduate's ability to critically reflect and take a stand on diverse social and cultural phenomena.

Liberal Arts and Humanities graduates can be employed in a wide range of areas of government, the non-profit and private sector in a variety of positions, such as copywriter, HR account manager, event manager, journalist, media analyst, nonprofit worker, expert consultant, public opinion analyst, etc. In the case of subsequent postgraduate studies, high-quality graduates can also grow their careers in academic and research spheres.

Keep in mind that course offer is subject to change based on teacher availability, student demand, and other factors.

1. Obtain minimum number of points required in the admission examination.

The entrance exam is a mandatory part of the admission process for the BA program.

The first condition of the admission process is the demonstration of general academic aptitudes in the GAP test organised between January 2026 and April 2026; the test can only be taken online. Candidates must register for the GAP test by themselves, directly via Scio’s website.

The Faculty of Humanities will provide one free voucher for the GAP test, to be held on April 25th (Saturday), 2026, to all applicants who have duly submitted the application form and paid the application fee. Such candidates will be sent detailed instructions on the procedure on how to collect the voucher for the April 26th test to the e-mail address provided in the application form. This voucher is non-transferable and can be used only once on the specified date. Participation in the GAP test on dates other than April 26th must be paid by the applicants themselves, as the faculty does not reimburse costs for the GAP test on dates different from the one specified.

Entrance Exam Format

The General Academic Prerequisites (GAP) test is all about measuring the skills you need to succeed in college. Instead of focusing on specific subjects, it looks at how well you can learn and think critically. The test has two main parts: one where you work with texts to show your understanding and vocabulary, and another that focuses on logical thinking and working with numbers.

In the first part, you’ll read and analyze different texts, figuring out their meanings and connections. The second part challenges you to think logically, connect different ideas, and handle data. Overall, the GAP test is designed to help identify the key skills that will set you up for success in your university journey!

2. Provide proof of completed secondary education (i.e. high school diploma).

After you have successfully passed the entrance exam, you will be asked to complete the second admission requirement - submitting proof of your previous education. In the case of our BA programme, we ask you to submit proof of completed secondary education which can be proven by a high school diploma.

Diploma Recognition

If you graduated outside of the Czech Republic, your diploma needs to go through a process of recognition or nostrification. This process validates that the diploma you are submitting is equivalent to a high school diploma you would receive after finishing high school in the Czech Republic.

You can choose from two options:

• Nostrification
