The Ethnomusicology Program, Faculty of Humanities cordially invites you to a lecture "Sounds and Music of the Synagogue" by Hebrew University Professor Edwin Seroussi (winner of a 2018 Israel Prize).
The lecture takes place in Jinonice (room No. 6020) from 2 pm on Thursday, December 6.
The lecture is a part of the Ethnomusicology of Jewish Communities course.
Edwin Seroussi is the Emanuel Alexandre Professor of Musicology and Director of the Jewish Music Research Centre at Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Born in Uruguay, he immigrated to Israel in 1971 where he took undergraduate and graduate degrees in Musicology at Hebrew University continuing to his Ph.D. from UCLA in 1987. He taught at Bar Ilan and Tel Aviv Universities in Israel, and was visiting professor at universities in Europe, North and South America. He has published on North African and Eastern Mediterranean Jewish music, on Judeo-Islamic relations in music and on Israeli popular music. He also serves as editor of Anthology of Musical Traditions in Israel. In 2018, he was awarded the Israel Prize for his research in culture, arts and musicology.
