The Department of Social and Cultural Ecology invites you to a lecture "Demand action or do-it-yourself? Climate justice movements and the changing role of the state." given by dr. Joost de Moor (Stockholm University). The lecture takes place at Campus Hybernská on October 31, 2019.
Abstract of the lecture:
Climate activism in the years after the failed 2009 Copenhagen climate summit was marked by a rejection of state-oriented activism. Instead of demanding change, activists increasingly prioritized do-it-yourself modes of action, including direct action against the fossil fuel industry, and lifestyle politics to take responsibility in everyday life. Yet over the past year, Fridays for Future and Extinction Rebellion have put the state center stage again. This lecture asks how we can make sense of these trends and why they matter.
