International conference: Children & Youth Perspectives

We would like to invite you to the Children & Youth Perspectives international Conference: Theory, Research and Practice in European Context, that will be held on the 14th and 15th of September 2023 in the Hybernská Campus. The Hosting institutions of the Conference are Charles University, Faculty of Humanities, Department of Psychology and Life Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Communication and Media Studies, Faculty of Arts, Institute of Czech Language and Theory of Communication and Kampus Hybersnká.

The conference is proud to host the international leaders of the field of Chidlhood/Children's studies Prof. Michal Molcho, University of Galway; Prof Kay Tisdal, University of Edinburg; Prof. Marek Tesar, University of Auckland and Dr. Lenka Vochovcová from Charles University as Keynote speakes besides other international advanced/senior researchers and leaders from the field who contribute with the conference papers. The conference aims to introduce the field of Childhood/Children's studies in the Czech context among others.

In terms of research, children and youth are traditionally treated as research subjects who provide the data in adult-centred categories on children’s themes, resulting in information about children that is directed, analysed, and produced by adults in adult-centred views. The child-centred perspective aims to acknowledge, address and empower children’s voice and active agency considering children as active social agents with their experiences and perspectives that are relevant to society. Yet, traditional discourses and related social policies on children and childhood still present barriers to child-centred perspective, inclusion, and active participation of children in democratic institutions and societies.
