In collaboration with the National Library, FHS is organizing a summer school called Cultural Exchanges in the Middle Ages. It focuses on cultural transformations in Mediaeval Europe in terms of concepts, media and material culture. On the methodological level, different theories of cultural exchange and transmission are presented. Materiality is also emphasized in excursions that showcase the vast variability of Czech manuscripts. Theoretical lectures are interlinked with practical illustrations of the concepts and ideas through visits to key locations of Czech mediaeval cultural heritage in Prague and in Kutná Hora..
The summer school aims to show the Middle Ages as a time, where stories and manuscripts circulated and ideas were transformed. The morning lectures are open to everyone. You can see what they will be about in the schedule attached below.
The summer school will take place as a part of grant Multilingual Europe: Communicating (in) the Middle Ages.
