The Faculty of Humanities, Charles University, cordially invites you to a lecture by Prof. Judy Quinn from the University of Cambridge, titled Where Do the Heroes Come From? Helgi Poems in the Poetic Edda. The lecture will take place on Thursday, 9 October 2025 at 16:00, in room 2.21, Faculty of Humanities building.
Prof. Judy Quinn is one of the world’s leading experts in Old Norse literature and mythology. Her extensive research currently focuses on skaldic poetry, its role in the saga genre, and eddic poetry. In her lecture, delivered as part of the course Approaches to Old Norse Literature and supported by the Internationalisation Fund of the Faculty of Humanities, she will present possible interpretations of the first three heroic poems of the Poetic Edda and explore the origins and function of heroic epic in the Germanic cultural sphere.
