Call for Applications: Institutional Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, Faculty of Humanities, Charles University, Prague, invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship starting in September 2026 or January 2027, depending on mutual agreement.
The Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology focuses on research on pressing contemporary societal challenges, including inequality and marginalization, gender, kinship and care, migration, environmental change, human–environment relations, and more-than-human perspectives. It also engages with memory studies and the anthropology of art and music.
Position Overview
The fellowship is intended for early-career researchers in social and cultural anthropology who wish to develop their research and teaching within a dynamic interdisciplinary environment. Applicant´s research focus should fit with the Department´s research profile

The successful fellow is expected to take an active part in the academic life of the Department, including teaching, participation in seminars, conferences, and workshops, and collaborative research activities.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicant must:
• Hold a Ph.D. in anthropology or a closely related discipline.
• Have obtained their Ph.D. no more than 8 years prior to the application deadline.
• Have received their Ph.D. from an institution outside the Czech Republic.
• Demonstrate a strong research and publication profile appropriate to career stage.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
• Teach one course per semester (in English).
• Actively contribute to the academic life of the department.
• Submit at least one publication in peer-reviewed journals during the fellowship.
Salary and Conditions
• Duration: 24 months.
• Salary: 42,000 CZK per month (approximately 1,700 EUR, gross).
• This position does not include a dedicated research budget.

• Academic CV, including a list of publications.
• Proof of Ph.D. degree (copy of diploma or official confirmation of degree completion, including the date and awarding institution).
• Cover letter (max. 2 pages).
• Research proposal (max. 3 pages), outlining the candidate’s planned research and its relevance to the department’s thematic focus.
• Writing sample (a sample of a published academic article or a dissertation chapter).
