From July 21–24, the biennial international conference of the European Association for Social Anthropology (EASA) took place in Poznań, Poland, under the theme “Anthropology: Possibilities in a Polarized World.” A large group of anthropologists from the Czech Republic attended the conference, and it can be said without exaggeration that people affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities at Charles University played a significant role.

In mid-July, a group of high school students from abroad visited the faculty to participate in the “Charles University Summer School: Discover Your Future" program organized by the Institute for Language and Professional Preparation UK (UJOP UK). These young people from various countries around the world had the opportunity to learn about our faculty and the study programs offered here. This year’s program featured two workshops that essentially addressed very similar questions: What does it mean to confront stereotypes? How do marginalized groups negotiate social recognition? And what strategies do they employ?

Justin Douglas Hart is a student of the Liberal Arts and Humanities bachelor’s programme at the Faculty of Humanities, Charles University, and the recipient of the Miroslav Vlček Exceptional Scholarship — a prestigious award granted by the Study in Prague Consortium to students who make an outstanding contribution to the international community.

On 23 June 2026 we launched the edited volume Vývar at the Tusculum Art Centre on the historic grounds of the Chittussi Hospital in Prague, and cooked select Romani dishes from the book.
